Emotional Eating
Are you suffering from the painful cycle of Emotional Eating (EE)?
* Do you turn to food for comfort when you feel upset, angry, hurt? * Do you feel unable to control the amount of food that you eat? * Are you frustrated by unsuccessful attempts to lose weight? * Do you have a love/hate relationship with food?
You CAN change your relationship with food and experience freedom, confidence and a healthy body.
You CAN:
* Understand the core issues that drive your EE * Learn to treat yourself with respect and care * Begin a new relationship with food that is satisfying and healthy * Learn to make food and exercise choices that honor who you are * Lose weight and keep it off
So many people feel that overcoming Emotional Eating is impossible and that they are destined to continue to suffer the pain of the binge/diet roller-coaster.
Is there a diet out there that really works?
The word "diet" usually means: a temporary change in eating habits that will lead to weight loss. Most diets "work" if you follow them; the problem is, when you stop the diet you gain the weight back.
If you would like to lose weight and keep it off, you must develop a food plan that: 1) Will allow you to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight and 2) Is enjoyable, flexible and satisfying enough to allow you to stay on that eating plan for the rest of your life.
If there such a thing as a healthy diet that is enjoyable, flexible and satisfying? YES!
If you want to develop this type of eating plan, it is important to understand something about your weight set point (WSP). Each person's body has its own individual WSP; it is the weight at which each individual body is the healthiest and most balanced. There is no formula for determining your WSP, you will discover it through experience. If your weight is above your body's WSP, your body will reduce your hunger signals and speed up your metabolism. If your weight is below your WSP, your body will increase your hunger signals and slow down your metabolism. So, if you eat when you are truly hungry, and only enough to satisfy your hunger, your body will eventually reach its WSP.
This means that you do not have to go hungry to lose weight!
There isn't one "right diet" for everyone. Some people prefer to count "points" or fat grams or calories. What's important is finding the best "diet" plan for you!
Many people who struggle with EE have success with a diet plan that focuses on hunger signals such as following "4 step" plan:
1. Wait until you are truly hungry 2. Choose food that is healthy and satisfying 3. Eat
mindfully
4. Stop eating when you are no longer hungry (go to step 1. and repeat)
Losing weight and keeping it off involves:
- Choosing a diet plan that feels right for you and fits well into your lifestyle.
- Understanding the emotional, psychological, relational, and
core
issues that drive your EE.
- Learning how to treat yourself with care and respect.
Losing weight doesn't have to be a losing battle.
